Guide
Install the app, allow local network access, put your iPhone and Fire TV on the same Wi‑Fi, then connect. Most people finish in a couple of minutes.
Have your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick powered on and signed into your home Wi‑Fi. Keep your iPhone nearby — you’ll confirm permissions once.
1. Install and permissions
Install SM Fire TV Remote. Core remote features work without an account; optional upgrades are handled by Apple if you subscribe.
When prompted, tap Allow. The app needs this to find your Fire TV on your Wi‑Fi. It is not used to browse the public internet on your behalf.
Follow the short intro in the app. You can change preferences later in Settings on your iPhone or inside the app if offered.
2. Connect to your Fire TV
Your iPhone and Fire TV must use the same Wi‑Fi network name (SSID). Guest networks or isolated “IoT” VLANs often block discovery — use your main home network when possible.
On iPhone: Settings → Wi‑Fi. On Fire TV: Settings → Network. Compare the network name; reconnect if either device is on the wrong one.
Open the app and start device discovery (e.g. tap Scan or the equivalent shown in your build). Wait a few seconds while the phone searches the local network.
Choose your Fire TV from the list. If the TV asks you to confirm a connection, accept on the TV. After pairing, the remote layout should respond to your taps.
Navigate the Fire TV interface, control playback, and adjust volume where supported. The app remembers the last device for the next session on the same network.
What you can do
Exact options depend on your app version and Fire TV model; this is what most users rely on day to day.
Find compatible Fire TV devices on the Wi‑Fi you’re connected to — no manual IP entry in typical setups.
D-pad, select, back, home, and playback controls in a layout meant for one-handed use.
Where supported, type into search fields from the phone instead of using the on-screen keyboard on the TV.
When your hardware supports it, adjust volume or power from the app. Availability varies by TV, soundbar, and HDMI setup.
